The Gathering Storm: Infectious Diseases and Human Rights in Burma

In summer 2007 representatives of the Human Rights Center and Johns Hopkins University released a report documenting how decades of repressive rule, civil war, and poor governance have contributed to the spread of HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and other infectious diseases in Burma. For the report, researchers traveled to Rangoon and Burma’s borders with China, Thailand, Bangladesh, and India. Join them for a panel discussion to hear their findings, recommendations, current activities and plans for the future.

Please bring good, salable donations to Barbara’s home  between Thursday, October 25 and Saturday, October 27 (call before drop off or leave under tarp on covered front porch behind railing).  Burmese handcrafts as well as weavings from refugee camps will be available for purchase.

If you would like to help with set up on Saturday or help on the day of the sale (including clean up) please call Barbara or Sue.  Bring yourselves and friends as buyers and your spirit of compassion for these extraordinarily brave Monks.

Make checks payable to Burmese American Women’s Alliance if you wish to make a cash donation.  Bring check to Barbara’s home or mail directly to BAWA 493 Oxford Street, San Francisco, CA  94134.  A tax deduction can be taken as this organization has official tax exempt status.
